Six Ways To Settle in Before The Holidays

Everyone looks forward to the holiday season. Each social calendar blocks the days of December and the first week of January for the intimate parties, company celebrations, and get-togethers.

A spacious condo in Manila, Philippines is an ideal setting to have all of these activities come together. Even if you aren't in the city, your new home is still the ultimate venue to show off your personal life.

Here's how you can prep your home for all the festivities of the holiday.

1. Check the utilities

Will the electricity run until the holidays? Will there have power supply rotation? Is there enough water to last until then? Though these concerns are out of your control, you minimize the effects of the interruptions by working over it. Knowing when they plan to shut the power out helps you prepare for the cold nights. You can keep a supply of water stocked nearby in case they cut it off in the middle of your shower.

Besides these variables, you also need to keep an eye out for the things within your reach. Check your power box to see if the fuse is still working correctly. Inspect light fixtures and switches, electric sockets, power lines, water fixtures, and pipes. Replace blinking light bulbs, openings, and dripping faucets. Hire someone do it for you if you are not familiar with these things.

2. Sort out all your stuff

Are your clothes, pieces of furniture and other home items still wrapped and encased in a box? Now is the time to peel off its plastic covers and place them where they need to be. Position your sofa set and display your jewel throw pillows. Place all your chairs on the dining table to allow to the feeling of home to settle in the area.

If you have unused home accessories and apparel now is also the time to go over them. Separate the ones you still want to use and display over broken and outdated stuff. You can throw away the broken and damaged personal belongings while those in excellent condition can be donated or given as a present this holiday season.

3. Decorate to bring some holiday spirit

After you are through with organizing and keeping stuff in their proper places, you can start making it feel like it's the holiday season. You can put up your old Christmas tree, or you can purchase a new one. Some homes opt for freshly-cut trees while others skip it altogether. Setting a tree consumes floor space and can pose a problem in small rooms.

If you aren't a fan of the tree, you can opt for festive hangings, garlands and colorful lights. Have fun picking a theme that allows you to mix and match the decors. You can purchase ready-made ones at home improvement stores and decorating sections of department stores. Boutiques and antique shops offer one-of-a-kind items that amplify the personality of your home.

4. Prepare the stuff you need to celebrate the occasion

food, pie, christmas
Each celebration includes eating, drinking and a bunch of activities concerned with merry-making. You have to consider the stuff you need to accomplish these, so you get to have the best time this season.

Plan out the dishes you wish to prepare ahead of time. It will give you enough time to stock up on ingredients and necessary foodstuff the recipe requires. Waiting until the day of the celebration to complete everything on the list may cause you to miss out the most important ones. The stores may also run out of that ingredient because other people may be pinning for it too.

If you want to conduct games with your family and friends, you can ask them for suggestions. They can provide the supplies and paraphernalia the moment you run out of options on how to obtain them.

The trick is to keep calm and go over each task slowly so you can be sure everything goes according to plan. Also, remember to hand out your new address to family and friends so they won't get lost.
